Margaret McIntyre was admitted to practice law in New York State in 1996 and has since been admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, as well as the District Court of Connecticut. She has practiced employment law since that time, first as an associate in a small law firm and, since August 1997, as a solo practitioner. In her practice, she represents employees in all areas of employment law, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour claims and claims involving unlawful denial of health insurance or pension benefits.
Ms. McIntyre represents her clients by negotiating severance packages for recently terminated employees, by filing claims for unpaid wages, by filing charges of discrimination at administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the New York State Division of Human Rights. She has also advocated for clients at formal mediation sessions designed to resolve conflicts outside of litigation.
A 1995 graduate of CUNY Law School, Ms. McIntyre has been an active member of Community Legal Resource Network ("CLRN") since its inception in 1998. CLRN is an initiative sponsored by CUNY Law School to assist its graduates who practice in small law firms to bring affordable legal services to traditionally under-served communities. Ms. McIntyre credits CLRN with helping her to keep her law practice viable while maintaining her connection to CUNY Law School’s client-centered approach to practicing public interest law. Ms. McIntyre currently serves as a facilitator of CLRN's Labor and Employment Practice Group.
Ms. McIntyre is also a long-time member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, a plaintiff’s employment lawyers association, and an active member of its New York Chapter (NELA/NY). From 2000 to 2009, she was co-chair of NELA/NY’s Sexual Harassment Committee. In December 2005, she was selected by the NELA/NY Executive Board to become a member of that Board. In December 2008, was became Executive Secretary to the Board and, in December 2013, she became Co-Vice President of the Board. At the end of 2015, Ms. McIntyre stepped down from the Board after 10 years of service. She continues to be an active member of the NELA/NY Legislative Committee.
Ms. McIntyre also serves as a volunteer mediator in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, where she mediates employment cases.
